    Student wages earned do not reduce a student's Statement of Account from the Office of the Bursar.

    Original documentation (copy not valid) is required to establish identity and employment authorization when a student is hired. See page 3 of Form I-9 for a full list of acceptable documents.

  • Work Referral

    SalukiNet: Provides All Students access to the Student Employment Work Referral, Statement of Earnings and more.

    1. Log into SalukiNet using your SIUC Dawg Tag
    2. Search "Student Employment"
    3. Click "Student Employment Referral"
    4. Select the semester employment will begin
    5. Click "Submit"
    6. Print Student Employment Work Referral.

I've been asked to interview, what do I do?

If a potential employer asks you to come to their office for an interview or to complete an application, be sure to make a good first impression. You should:

  • Be on time, presentable and respectful.
  • Communicate your value through your accomplishments.
  • Take your student employment referral and your documents establishing identity and work eligibility with you.

They offered me the job now what do I do?

Before you can start work, your new employer will meet with you at the hiring department to review and complete required New Hire documents.

How much will I be paid?

In most cases, the pay structure ranges from the SIUC established minimum wage rate. You will begin employment at the minimum rate unless you qualify for a job classification increase or an excess qualification/market adjustment increase.

How many hours can I work?

All student employees will be limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week for any combination of multiple job types which include student employment. Information regarding multiple jobs can be found in the Student Employee Handbook.

How often will I get paid?

You will be paid on a bi-weekly basis, (every other Friday). Payroll periods run Sunday through Saturday, with the payday being the second Friday following the end of the payroll period.

How do I know how much my pay will be?

You are encouraged to view your payroll information via the HRSS portal, which is updated the Monday prior to each scheduled payday.
